Bunk Activities: Wednesday

For campers to do on their own before reporting back to cabins.

Can you complete all 3?

#1 Storytime: Follow The Moon Home by Philippe Cousteau and Deborah Hopkinson

About the story: A triumphant story of environmental activism, community, and friendship: Acclaimed activist Philippe Cousteau and renowned author Deborah Hopkinson team up to offer a story of the powerful difference young people can make in the world. Meet Viv, who has a new home and a new school by the sea and follows her as she finds her way in a new place and helps bring together a whole community to save the sea turtles of the South Carolina coast.

Watch a read-aloud here!

#2 Outdoor Activity: Spray Away ABC

Grab some sidewalk chalk and write the alphabet on your driveway or against a backyard fence. Give your kids hold of the hose (or a spray bottle) and call out the letters for them to spray away. Works with colors and shapes for the younger kids and words for the older ones!

#3 Outdoor Adventure: With My Own Two Hands

Take a walk around your block and list some of the things that you can use your hands to do that would make a difference for you, your family or your community. Maybe you could even make up a song to this poem and hum it while you explore?

With my own two hands

I can change the world.

Make a better place

With my own two hands.

Make a kinder place

With my own two hands.

Even better: Bring a trash bag with you to pick up any garbage you might see on the side of the road.
